National Payroll Week is back. The Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP) is leading the annual celebration and recognition of the industry, from 4 – 8 September 2023.

Aiming to ‘shine a spotlight on the true champions behind every payslip’, the event this year has the theme of #choosepayroll.

The hashtag reflects the growing profile of the payroll industry, both as a strategic business function and a positive career choice.

National Payroll Week was established in the UK by the CIPP in 1998 to celebrate the payroll profession and give you all the recognition you deserve. Over 20 years later NPW is now bigger than ever as you, the payroll profession, have shown your absolute dedication to our industry, and this year we want everyone to know why you #ChoosePayroll.”

UK chancellor recognises industry, endorses National Payroll Week

Budget 2023 payroll and hr

The UK Treasury has this year officially acknowledged and celebrated the essential work of payroll professionals.

Jeremy Hunt MP, Chancellor of the Exchequer, highlighted the ‘critical role’ of the industry and spoke of his ‘support and endorsement’ for the work of the CIPP in elevating and driving the profession forward:

Payroll departments have a critical role in supporting the UK economy through the tax an national insurance system, collecting taxpayer’s contributions to fund essential UK services. In doing this, you are both supporting Government policy and upskilling and supporting payroll staff to meet that challenge. Please accept this letter as my support and endorsement of your work in professionalising this important sector.
