January 2024 marks five years since our relaunch under the new name Zellis. In that time, the company has been on a tremendous journey: from the incredible success of ResourceLink, one of the most popular payroll software solutions ever, through to building the award-winning HCM Cloud. This anniversary is a perfect time to reflect, especially as we look ahead to our next exciting leap forward.
The new brand was unveiled in early 2019 as the evolution of NGA Human Resources UK & Ireland. While launching a fresh identity and modern technological outlook, Zellis carried with it the track record and expertise gained from decades of providing payroll software, HR solutions, and managed payroll services to many of the UK and Ireland’s leading companies, as well as public sector organisations.
Today, Zellis has 2,500 employees and nearly 1,000 customers, many of whom are the biggest and most sophisticated employers in the UK and Ireland. Three million people across the UK and Ireland are paid every month through our payroll software, with £26 billion processed annually via our managed payroll services.
Zellis Group grew rapidly since it acquired its new identify, expanding through acquisition to include our sister companies Moorepay, which delivers payroll and HR services to companies with less than 1,000 employees, and Benefex, the global benefits, wellbeing, recognition, and reward platform.

2019
Zellis wins Payroll and HR Software Product Award
ResourceLink, then Zellis’ flagship solution, was recognised as best payroll and HR software product by industry leaders at The Rewards.
2020
Teams and technologies adapt to meet pandemic challenges
Product teams made 300 changes to functionality, while managed services teams quickly adapted to new policies and payroll demands like the furlough scheme. This enabled customers to navigate the rapidly changing landscape of the Covid-19 pandemic.
CIPP awards company Payroll Software Product of the Year
Judges at the prestigious CIPP Annual Excellence Awards recognised ResourceLink as the best product of its kind on the market.
2021
Release of advanced new flagship solution Zellis HCM Cloud
Zellis HCM Cloud arrived, combining the latest cloud and automation innovations to deliver engaging employee experiences, empowering data analytics, and greater efficiency. The live launch introduced the new product to an audience of hundreds of industry professionals, customers, and partners.
Zellis wins Payroll Software Product of the Year at the CIPP Annual Excellence Awards
The new flagship product Zellis HCM Cloud scooped the coveted prize. Judges praised the “clear focus on innovation and commitment to future development”.
2022
Industry heavyweight takes over CPTO role
David Woodward, one of the industry’s most experienced technology leaders, joined as Chief Product and Technology Officer. After leading roles at major HR and payroll providers on both sides of the Atlantic, he came to help guide Zellis into a new and exciting phase.
2023
Key innovations and enhancements upgrade Zellis HCM Cloud
Two major product updates introduced new features, improved data analytics, and enhanced integrations, elevating employer and employee experience.

Efficiency boost and financial wellbeing focus win Zellis Payroll and HR Software Award

2024 and beyond…
At the most recent Zellis User Summit, CEO John Petter (pictured) and other senior executives signalled the direction of travel in front of a record-breaking audience. Delegates enjoyed an exclusive preview of new advanced solutions in development, including versatile automation capability and generative AI.
